The Hit Men is the idea of illustrator and writer Mike GLC. The Hit Men idea came to him 6 years ago whilst he was serving time in Wandsworth jail. Whilst incarcerated Mike had drawn and written the story to a comic which at the time he had called 'Drake' which was about an ex marine who started up a mercenary group. He had always promised himself that one day he would finish the comic and fully develop the idea but life caught up to him and he never got round to it as Mike is also a musician who has sold over 160'000 records and he also went on to develop a successful street team and a casting agency, finding himself working alongside the likes of CH4, BBC3, N Dubz, Robbie Williams and many more.
After another unfortunate run in with the law he finally decided to take some time out and became a recluse for three years focusing solely on creating his comic and developing business ideas. Whilst spending some time in Nottingham he would often watch his friends play a computer game called 'Hit Man' and he then saw a film of the same title. After seeing this he was so inspired by the lead character and the way that the life of a trained killer would really be, he then began to think what it would be like if you got all the different types of trained killers from across the world and combine them together in one unstoppable team. He then went back to the idea for the original 'Drake' comic which already had most of the ingredients in place, but, the one thing that mike liked from the Hit Man film was the idea of execution being a business.
powerful countries economically in the world. Control of the seas meant control of all trade, which led to the platform for the slave trade, which cemented England's place at the top as the most dominate country in the world.
Mike was also a great fan of the way stories of the past were written, the mixing of mythology and reality, things like the Norse Sagas, Greek and Japanese mythology and the way that Caesar and Napoleon had written themselves into history and this was the type of atmosphere that he wanted to created for the Hit Men Sagas.
This train of thought led him to create the backdrop of Old London. He didn't concentrate all his efforts on just creating the characters, he wanted an equal amount of thought to go in to creating the world in which they lived in. One of the things he didn't like from most films of this genre was the whole government this, government that, secret affairs within the government storylines, as what he felt these films did not show was the effect that these things would actually have on everyday civilians. So Mike thought, what if you take the usual cliché of assassins, hit men, and government espionage and mix that with the streets, gang leaders, bosses and the underworld.
When creating Old London one of the things that he kept in mind was how individuals and incidences decided the fate of millions and changed the course of history forever. For example, the French revolution, the lack of professional soldiers and generals and a country fighting for its survival all set the stage for dictators such as Napoleon to become the most powerful man in Europe in turn shaping Europe as the continent we know it today. And that same entwining Europe that Napoleon had put in place now gave way for personal disputes and incidents to manifest themselves into the Great War (World War One), which led to World War Two, which led to the rise of Hitler and the Third Reich and the invasion of Europe causing a chain reaction of events for example the allied partnership between America and Russia resulted in German Scientists and technology creating weapons, rockets and nuclear technology, in turn sowing the seeds for the cold war and shaping American and Russian Relations as we know them today. Pearl harbor resulted in America’s full involvement in the Second World War, which turned the American into the military superpower, which they are today. The battle of Britain led to the East End of London
being extensively bombed creating the environment which the gang and crime culture that we know today originated from.
Sorry for the history lesson, but this is all an integral part of explaining how Mike came about to creating the Hit Men and the world they live in and how the actions of few affect the lives of many. This is what Mike is trying to reflect in the Hit Men and the world that they exist in.
The long 3 years paid off, the city of Old London has been built, the characters have been fully developed and the storyline is ready to keep everyone in suspense.
